Anne Marie Bradford

Milton Freewater—long-time Walla Walla resident, Anne M. Bradford, 91, died Oct. 22, 2011, at Heritage Villa, Milton Freewater, Oregon.

Viewing & visitation will be Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St., Walla Walla. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2011 at Mountain View Cemetery, 2120 S. Second Ave., Walla Walla. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2011 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 323 Catherine St., Walla Walla. The Reverends Ernest Campbell and Birch Rambo will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to: the Alzheimer's Association of America, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Bradford was born in Spring Green, Wisconsin, May 26, 1920, to Oscar Rowland Linden and Mabel Hansen Linden. She graduated from Dodgeville High School in Dodgeville, Wisconsin in 1937. Anne went on to major in English and Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She met her husband-to-be, Albert Naron Bradford at the Madison campus where the U.S. Navy had sent him for officer's training. After Anne graduated in 1942, she taught in Wisconsin schools for a short time before marrying Albert on August 29, 1942 in Hollywood, Florida. The couple then moved to Bakersfield, California, where Anne worked at a shipyard while Albert served in the Pacific during WWII.

In 1946, the couple settled in Walla Walla where, prior to the war, Albert had been establishing a law practice. Anne taught for a few years at St. Paul's Episcopal School for girls in Walla Walla. Later in life, she worked at the Walla Walla Community College Library.

Anne was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Walla Walla Country Club, Eastern Star, and P.E.O. For a season, she and her husband were active fundraisers for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of America.

Anne is survived by a daughter-in-law, Laura L. (Laurie) Bradford, of Walla Walla, one brother, Harold K. Linden of Minneapolis, MN, one grandson, and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert N. Bradford, and two sons, Peter and John Bradford.
