Ann Elaine Cox

September 9, 1948 — December 5, 2024

Walla Walla

Ann E. Cox lost her third courageous battle against cancer and was called to the Lord on December 5, 2024. A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Ann touched the lives of so many with her love, warmth, and radiant spirit. She was the heart of her family, with an unmatched ability to make everyone feel seen. Her laughter could brighten any room.

Ann was a proud Beta Sigma Phi sorority member, dedicating many years of volunteer work in her community, including at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

She began her career as a dental assistant for Dr. Francis Baffney and later worked at the state penitentiary dental department.

With a keen eye for fashion, Ann joined the Hatfield’s Department Store team, where she quickly rose to become a department manager. She then joined her father, Fred Sporleder, to open and run the women’s department at Sporleder’s. During her time there, Ann orchestrated numerous fashion and style shows for both Sporleder’s and Bon Marche, showcasing her creativity and passion for style.

In 1981, Ann met the love of her life, Jim Cox. They married and soon welcomed two sons, Ned, in 1982 and Gil, in 1985. Ann’s greatest joy was her family; she deeply loved her boys.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Dorothea Sporleder, and her brothers, Fred Sporleder Jr. and Marc Sporleder.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Jim Cox; her beloved sons, Ned Cox (Zenia) and Gil Cox (Melanie); her adored grandchildren, Gianna, Leo, and Hannah; her dear sisters, Randy Warren and Susan Sporleder; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

In lieu of a funeral, a celebration of Ann’s life will be held at a later date.
