A.F. “John” Johnson passed away on July 20, 2017 at the home of his son Tom in Garibaldi, Oregon at age 91.
He was born on the family farm in Bloomfield, Nebraska before the family re-settled in Salem. He served in the Navy during WWII, after which he married his wife of 55 years, Mary Lu Davis, who preceded him in death in 2001.
After the war John embarked on a career in the tax service, retiring for the first time at age 65. He was active in the VFW and Elks, and his quick mind and love of people pulled him back into tax work until he retired again (successfully this time) at the age of 86. His second wife, Louise Piper preceded him in death in 2015.
John is survived by siblings Paul, Wanda, and Joyce; children Floyd, Kathy, and Tom; three Grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
We will miss his mischievous sense of humor, his special touch with animals and his tall tales.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 9:30AM at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 Alder Street in Walla Walla, Washington with Rev. Robert McCoy, officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral Home.
