Alex Hamilton Demambro

Alex Hamilton DeMambro passed away peacefully with loved ones on January 18, 2025, at the age of 52. Alex was born in Wellesley, Massachusetts to John and Ellen (Phalan) DeMambro, and grew up in the Boston area.

He was a man of many interests, talents, and adventures. He earned an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from UMass Boston, and a Master of Architecture from Boston Architectural College. In addition to his wide range of education, Alex was a Captain in the US Army, serving his country from 1996 to 2008 with the 211th Military Police Battalion and the 10th Mountain Division at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

As an Architect, Alex designed and revitalized many buildings in the Walla Walla Valley, bringing beauty and longevity to historic buildings, houses, and wineries. Alex opened his own firm, DeMambro Architecture, in 2015. His attention to detail, light, style and function won him an AIA award in 2018, an Excellence on Main Street award in 2014, a BSA Design award in 2014, as well as two Community Awards for a Decade issued in 2020 by the City of Walla Walla for work with USKH.

Alex’s love for adventure and culture led him to many countries where he always sought art and architecture, history and adventure. He was able to visit countries in Europe, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and South and Central America.

As a passionate outdoorsman, he was an experienced backcountry skier, mountaineer, backpacker, rock climber, mountain biker, fly fisherman, and rafter. He summited several peaks in the Pacific Northwest, Including Mount Rainier and Mount Saint Helens.

Alex was a dedicated community member, always striving to support local arts and culture while bringing out the best in people. He sat as President of the Board of Directors for both the Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival and the Walla Walla Symphony, and worked with the Walla Walla Sustainable Living Center, the Walla Walla Historic Preservation Commission, and the City of Walla Walla Sustainability Committee.

He is survived by his Father John DeMambro, his brother David DeMambro, nephews Miles and Luke DeMambro, wife Hallie DeMambro-Brown and her daughter Katelyn Spencer. He was preceded in death by his mother Ellen (Phalan) DeMambro. Alex’s love for life, his jovial nature, curiosity, creativity and commitment to the community will be long missed.

A Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 12 N Square, Boston Massachusetts. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Passatempo Taverna, 215 W Main St, Walla Walla.
